Healing to Health - Vinette Zabriskie, M.D.

I have a blog!

I want to start a dialogue about health and healing. As a physician I have spent some 35 years doing physicals and annual exams. Are you healthy if all your numbers in your health care provider’s office look good? Are you healthy if you feel good? What role do you think the body, mind and spirit play in your well being? Please share your thoughts with me!

  1. I think health is mental then physical. If your mental health is happy ? or FULL-filled the physical health follows. I feel physical issues are just warnings like a car ? telling you it low on gas or oil or a map ? to let us know somethings wrong or imbalanced.
I used to be an active alcoholic and had to visit the dr regularly because I was sick ? all the time.
Once I got sober, And worked on healing my mental and learning to love myself again (which took a very long time) I never got hospitalized again. For over 15years now I have been very healthy. Now to feel even better I try and give myself premium fuel by making healthy choices!!! I believe it is all connected.

    1. Thank you so much, Lacy, for responding! I know you have done so much healing and whenever I am with you I can just see the positivity radiating out of your body! I totally agree that self love is one of the most important things we can learn. It is also very difficult to learn because of what are usually childhood traumatic events. I became a physician because I wanted to help others heal. What I have really learned (among other things) through the Training in Power academy is that I had to heal myself first. And even today, the work continues!

  2. I totally agree. I believe our health is reflective of the energy we emit. If we are speaking and acting on things that conflicts with our desires then we are attracting negative energy to our reality. If we are thinking, speaking, feeling good, and acting on what we desire then our reality will be what we desire not the contrast of our desires.
Thanks for doing this positive work Vinette! You are awesome!

    1. Kathy, it is so wonderful to hear from you! I am moving generally out of my traditional gynecology practice and more and more into “energy medicine.” I have studied for 17 years in the Training in Power Academy (traininginpower.com) where I have learned meditation techniques and various healing methods. The training has been profound and I teach in the Academy also. I am now finally learning about healing, where traditional medicine teaches mostly about disease and illness!

  3. I love that you are doing this and talking about all the areas in our life that impact our health. You have so many gifts in addition to your years and experience as a medical doctor.

    Here is my experience,

If I am feeling unwell (before I am sick) I look at the food I am eating. Am I eating a lot of inflammatory foods etc… Also as you say it’s what we think too so I look at my thoughts. If I can’t feel better by changing what I eat or think I would go to a practitioner who can help in the area that I need.

I live in Canada and am grateful for our medical system where anything within the mainstream medical community is free but I am more into prevention than waiting for it to get that far. I would love alternative practitioners to be included in our healthcare system.

Recently my daughter had a serious head trauma that shut down her life for almost 2 years and we went to every health care professional we could find, some were free and most were not since the mainstream medicine couldn’t help her . It was a Bowen therapist who we were connected to through a Functional Medicine doctor who solved the problem and gave us our daughter back.

I am a believer in looking at the whole picture, mind body spirit and that included our emotional body since many of us are highly impacted by the thoughts and feelings of those around us.

Hugs to you Vinette and thank you for taking on this grand and important endeavour. You are the perfect person for it.

    1. Thank you so much, Marilyn, for your thoughtful and powerful reply. I am in the process of writing a book on healing and health and want to hear from people about the whole variety of experiences as they navigate the health care system in whatever country. We are all aware that the US system is potentially going to undergo a massive change . Let’s hope for the best!

  4. I have a wonderful naturopath-chiopractor who does gentle manipulations. He has been so helpful with his all around approach.I have traditional doctors I rarely see except for annual exams.

    1. Thank you for your response, Cathy! I totally like your approach in using your naturopath-chiropractor to help you stay “tuned up.” I am suspecting that you pay careful attention to you thoughts and give positive messages to your brain and body for you to stay healthy!
